Help and planner documentation

Updated 26 October 2026

GoSpace is a browser-based room and garden planner. Home and office layouts are conceptual. Measurements use meters in the interface and integer millimeters in saved files.

Create a plan

  1. Select Room, Garden, Home concept or Office on the overview.
  2. Enter the rectangular space dimensions, entrances, fixed features and required items. Room and office setup supports multiple doors/windows on any wall; gardens support multiple gates. The live preview numbers openings and explains wall offsets. Fixed features can be resized before generation. For homes, enter the building footprint first, then the optional plot.
  3. Set spacing preferences and review the requirements.
  4. Generate layouts, compare the accepted options, then select Use this layout.

The generator may return fewer than three layouts. If none fit, reduce item sizes or counts, adjust clearances, or increase the space. It does not silently drop required items. Notes are stored as context; they affect generation only if an optional AI suggestion is explicitly confirmed.

Choose objects and templates

Templates provide editable starting briefs for rooms, houses, plots, offices and gardens. Search by name, dimensions, bedroom count or a feature such as utility, study or greenhouse. Review the requirements before generating; selecting a template does not replace an existing project.

The object library groups furniture, storage, appliances, office equipment and garden features. Search names or common terms such as sleeper, coat rack, privacy screen, bike or water butt. Click an object to add it, or drag it onto the canvas; Recent remembers the last eight choices in this browser.

Dimensions are starting footprints, not product specifications. Sofa bed (open) reserves its unfolded footprint; Bicycle parking (2 bikes) includes the bikes. Adjust dimensions to the item you own and allow additional space for use, doors, maintenance and access. Screens, booths, greenhouses and other new objects use solid-object collision rules. Drawings and 3D boxes are schematic.

Edit objects and dimensions

Select an object to edit its size, position, rotation, color or layer. Shift-click objects, or use the checkboxes under Objects and layers, to select several. Align and spacing controls affect unlocked objects. Room, office and garden regeneration preserve locked items. House AutoPlan rearranges furnishings within existing rooms and preserves structure and locks; Replan house explicitly replaces rooms and furnishings, including locked items, after saving a local checkpoint. A failed checkpoint prevents replacement. Manual edits can create collisions; check the warnings before saving to an account.

Wall and zone tools use two clicks. Select a wall to add a door or window. Select a zone to edit its type, color and dimensions. Measurement is a temporary on-canvas tool. The 3D view is read-only and includes Reset 3D view. Checks beside save status links geometry/spacing issues to the affected items.

Rugs can sit under furniture. Garden furniture can occupy lawn/patio surfaces; planting assets can occupy beds. Solid objects must avoid each other and circulation paths. Door checks use an approach strip plus the displayed hinged sweep; sliding/garage doors have no hinged sweep.

Snap uses 100 mm positions and 10 mm sizes. Turn it off for millimeter placement. Grid visibility is separate. Click the zoom percentage to reset pan and fit the whole plan.

Place and measure precisely

Select unlocked objects and use Place precisely in the properties panel. Left, right, top and bottom gaps use the selection’s outer bounds and the rectangular plan boundary, including rotated objects. Nearest wall face is a separate measurement to the nearest wall rectangle on the same level. For houses on plots, boundary gaps refer to the plot boundary. Exact moves refuse to move outside the boundary. Nudge in 1, 10, 50, 100 or 500 mm steps, or enter horizontal/vertical distances. Positive distances move right and down.

Repeat with a gap creates 1–20 additional sets of the unlocked selection. The gap is between the sets’ outer bounds. Copies retain their dimensions, rotation and fixed-feature status. Every copy must fit without introducing geometry errors; otherwise none are added. The entire operation is one undo step.

Open Guides below the canvas to show selected dimensions, boundary gaps, or door/window access regions and requested object spacing. Amber shows entrance access and door swings, blue shows window access, and red marks blocked access. Dashed furniture outlines show half the requested spacing on each object. These overlays and temporary measurements are view aids; they do not add entities to JSON or change exports.

Measure with two clicks. The completed distance stays visible until cleared or the tool changes. Hold Shift to constrain a wall or measurement horizontally/vertically. The readout includes horizontal and vertical distances and angle.

Use the Edit button in Objects and layers to focus an item’s inspector. Wall edits accept length/angle with either endpoint held fixed, or exact endpoint coordinates. Apply changes as one undo step. Adjoining walls keep their endpoints, and attached openings must still fit. Add door/window chooses a free span; garden walls offer gates. Opening edits include a marked wall-start preview, host-wall choice and field-specific fit/overlap errors. A locked wall protects its geometry and openings. Gates support hinge/swing changes as well as doors.

Local saving and versions

Guest projects autosave in this browser. Wait for Saved locally before closing. Use the same browser profile, hostname and port to reopen them. Private browsing, clearing site data or storage eviction can remove projects. Export JSON backups for work you need to keep.

Open Version history to save a named layout checkpoint, preview it, restore it with undo available, or open it as a new local project. Restoring also restores saved AutoPlan settings when available. History keeps up to 20 entries and 5 MiB per project; delete selected versions when it fills. Named checkpoints are never silently removed. Deleting a project also deletes its local versions.

Export and print

Export offers editable JSON, SVG drawings, a full-plan PNG, and Print / Save as PDF. PDF uses the browser print dialog; allow the popup. Exports use the document dimensions, regardless of canvas zoom or pan. Layout JSON contains one layout. Full project backup preserves planning settings and can include local history. Both formats can be imported from My projects; editable drafts with geometry warnings reopen for repair. Portable files are limited to 16 MiB, separately from account upload limits.

Accounts, conflicts and sharing

Accounts depend on this installation’s configuration. Verify your email before uploading, updating, snapshotting or sharing account projects. Account includes resend verification and a status check. Existing unverified accounts retain reads and deletion. Signing in does not upload guest projects automatically: choose Upload to account for each project. Account-linked projects keep a local recovery copy and use revision-checked server saves. Offline changes retry after reconnecting. A 409 conflict pauses that project’s account saves; reload the account copy or save your draft as a new account project. Export JSON first if you need both.

Account snapshots are separate from local versions. Share creates an expiring read-only snapshot, not a live editing link. Anyone with the link can view and export it until it expires or you revoke it. Revocation cannot recall copies someone has already downloaded. AI, Google sign-in and subscriptions remain disabled during the public beta.

Troubleshooting

  • Projects missing: check the browser profile and exact site address, then look under My projects. Import a JSON backup if needed.
  • Storage unavailable: allow site storage, check available disk space, and export the open plan before clearing data.
  • Upgrade blocked: close other GoSpace tabs and reload. Do not clear site data to resolve an upgrade.
  • Account save failed: check connectivity and geometry warnings, then use Save. Local saving and account saving have separate status messages.
  • PNG or PDF missing: check downloads and popup permissions. PDF requires the print dialog.
  • 3D unavailable: enable browser graphics/WebGL or continue in 2D.
